Our work with Matterra spanned strategy, naming, branding, and digital design, shaping an identity that reflects both their mission and the value they bring to clients.
The brand is built around the idea of shared truth—the common ground where consultancy and client meet to align, collaborate, and work together for the planet. Matterra’s character is that of a companion: always on the side of the people they work with, supporting founders through the challenges of building something new while amplifying their vision.
It all starts from the name. Matterra combines matter and terra, bringing together the ideas of focusing on what truly matters for the future and staying grounded in the planet we share. As a coined word, it carries the same spirit as the brand itself—combining forces to create something stronger. It sounds warm and reassuring, aiming to express trust, stability, and a sense of groundedness.
This is expressed most clearly through a dynamic graphic device, where two elliptical forms interact: one amplifying the other to suggest growth, scale, and impact. The device becomes a flexible visual element that threads through the wider system, reinforcing Matterra’s role as a catalyst for progress. At the core of this system sits the logo, inspired by the Earth’s unique slanted axis. This geometric form evolves into an icon that speaks to the company’s core values: collaboration, circularity, progress, and a deep connection to the planet.
The visual language is further enriched by a set of soft, handwritten-style illustrations. These add a personal, approachable layer to the brand, balancing the structured system with a more human tone. They serve as gentle cues of collaboration and guidance, making the brand feel friendly, like a supportive companion on the client’s journey.
Extending into digital, the website was designed and built as a clear and intuitive experience, guiding users through Matterra’s services and mission. By using a blend of natural, earthy tones with vibrant accents, and balancing a typographic system, where a confident modern sans serif and a softer serif are combined to introduce warmth and approachability, it builds on an identity that feels professional yet human, analytical yet inspiring.
